Anthophile : Antique Australian “High Colonial Period” Heart and Flower Drop Earrings in 18ct Gold

♥Sold♥

Anthophile: a lover of flowers. These large yet light earrings with their heart-shaped borders overflowing with exotic blooms made me think of a love of gardens and of the joy that comes from being amongst growing things.

Dating to the High Colonial Era of Australian jewellery, circa 1860, these striking high carat gold earrings are beautiful and rare one-of-a-kind examples of Australian Victorian Era drop earrings. Fashioned out of fine sheets of beaten gold, pressed from the reverse into the shape of plump leaves and exotic flowers with long stamen, all swept up in an elongated heart shaped border. Every millimeter is covered in textured detail.

The original hooks have long disappeared, so I had a new pair handmade in sympathy for the originals out of 18ct gold. They keep the drops perfectly balanced and secure in each lobe.

I have left the gold patina in place, but should the new owner wish I can have it removed to make the gold bright and sparkling once more.

A bold and striking pair of light as a feather earrings. Romantic slices of history and a floraphile’s dream.

Manufacture:
Handmade in 18ct yellow gold. There are no hallmarks present as is correct for the period, the metal content has been confirmed by XRF test.

Excellent antique condition. There is one minor flaw in that the petals on the side of one flower have taken a little knock. I bet you didn’t notice until I pointed it out.
