Galaxy : 1960s Space Age “Saucer” Ring with Opal Doublet

AU$575Approximately US$377

A big gold dish of 18ct yellow gold surrounds an Australian opal doublet of intense fire. This love was clearly someone’s favourite ring as the doublet has taken a beating through frequent wear, but it’s not hard to see why – the styling is immaculate and the opal doublet contains a whole universe of glowing sparkles and shimmers that change with the light. You could stare into this window into another world for hours and hours.

I don’t like to offer jewels that are in less than perfect condition, but I’ve made an exception for this one as it’s so beautifully made, and despite the wear to the doublet I feel certain it will continue to delight and inspire.

This jewel was made in the 1960s during the enthusiasm for all things futuristic and space age in the lead up to and following our first voyages to the moon.
