Nod To The Elders : Ceylon Sapphire Stirrup Ring in 12ct Gold, Circa 1920

♥Sold♥

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a fascinating collection of medieval rings, amongst them is a sapphire stirrup ring. Their catalogue states “The stirrup ring, with its distinctive form that suggests both a horse stirrup and a gothic arch, was in fashion from the twelfth century well into the fourteenth century. They were most commonly set with a sapphire and worn by both clergy and laymen.”

Now this smart treasure is not nearly so old as that, being made just last century in the style of a medieval stirrup ring.  This gorgeous thing is approaching 100 years old, but hasn’t hit the antique milestone yet. In fact it had lived such an eventful life over the last 90+ years that the facets of its natural sapphire were quite abraded, preventing the true sparkle of the sapphire from showing, so I’ve had it professionally re-cut to bring let the vibrant sapphire sparkle to its full potential once again.

A truly unisex piece, it will look equally well on the hand of any human, no matter which gender (if any) they identify with.
