Blue Lily : Modernist Opal and Diamond Ring in 18ct Gold

AU$1,200Approximately US$788

An unusual modernist ring from the late 20th Century, in high carat gold with a deep blue pop of electric colour, and the bright white sparkle of diamonds. A flowing, one of a kind, luxe statement ring.

Set with an Australian black opal (likely a doublet) in a tapered bezel and two fine white brilliant cut diamonds in individual white gold coronet settings. A high swirl of gold wraps around the opal suggestive of the petal of a calla lily.

As the opal is completely encased in gold with only its top visible it is impossible for me to ascertain whether this is a solid opal or an opal doublet. Removing it from its setting would be the only way to be certain, and I am loathe to do that. Priced as a doublet, but won’t you be a lucky duck if you discover that there’s a solid black opal hiding inside.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 18ct gold with 18ct white gold settings around the diamonds. The ring is hallmarked to the inside of the band PL&18ct, which I believe is a makers mark (PL) and fineness mark. I have had the ring XRF tested to confirm is is solid 18ct gold throughout.

The central black opal (likely doublet) measures 7.5mm x 9.5mm and is held in a tapered rub-over bezel. One one side of the opal are two fine white brilliant cut diamonds, of 3mm diameter and 2.2mm diameter with a total carat weight of approximately 0.14 carat.

A high swirl of gold wraps around the opal and alongside the diamonds in an organic form similar to that of a calla lily.
The ring sits 6.42mm high on the finger.
Weighs 6.16 grams.

Size:
N or 6.75

Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. Under magnification some light abrasions are visible on the opal, not visible with the naked eye but mentioned here for transparency.
Ready for immediate wear.
