Darling Blossom : Georgian Era Fichu or Lace Pin with Flat Cut Garnets and Wild Ocean Pearls

AU$550Approximately US$361

This tiny flower-like brooch had a very specific purpose for Georgian ladies of means. The fashion of the time saw dresses with low scooping necklines, so for modesty or for warmth ladies would don a fichu, or lace scarf, that went around the back of the neck and tucked into the bodice, covering the décolletage. Cute little fichu pins like this one were used to secure them in place.

I like to wear my fichu brooches to bling up my cardigans, because that’s how I roll. I bet you could dream up a million different ways to style this cutie, it would look fantastic on a jacket lapel (chaps: take note!) or pinned to a beanie. I’ve seen them worn on lengths of velvet fastened around a wrist or neck. So chic.

The flat top facet of the garnets gives them a demure twinkle, just enough to draw attention to the tiny treasure. Although its only small in size it is bound to be remarked upon. A wonderful conversation starter.
