Sparkling Dew : Early Australian Edwardian Era Aquamarine Drop Necklace

AU$1,700Approximately US$1,116

This divine necklace dates to the Edwardian Era and was handmade in Australia around 1905. The natural aquamarines are the palest blue and shimmer like dew in the morning sun.

Aquamarine, a light to mid blue jewel that takes its name from the colour of the sea (literally: water [aqua] + ocean [marine] ). Aquamarine is the birthstone for March, and a traditional jewel for brides on their wedding day. According to old legends, wearing aquamarine promises a happy marriage and brings the woman wearing it joy and wealth ( so say the experts on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, I believe them! )

Aquamarine drop necklaces were favourites for brides in the Victorian and Edwardian Eras, but they would be just as glorious on a contemporary woman. The classic elegance of this necklace could easily be worn with more casual attire, too. It will look every bit as chic with a white v-scoop neck t-shirt and your favourite jeans as it will with silk and brocade. An heirloom piece you can wear on the Big Day, and every day ever after.
