Sweet Melody : Edwardian Era Pendant with “Rose de France” Amethyst and Seed Pearls in 9ct Gold

AU$650Approximately US$427

Circa 1910, the highlight of this Edwardian Era pendant is the delicate pinky purple amethyst – amethysts of this shade are referred to as “Rose de France” amethyst, they are uncommon and delicately beautiful. The brightness of the stone is accented very prettily by the lustre of the natural split seed pearls.

Modelled in the outline of a diamond with the interior design formed in rails of gold. The seed pearls along  the bottom edge make me think of musical notation. Perhaps the call of a willie wagtail or some other sweet songbird.

Manufacture:
The pendant is handmade in 9ct gold, hallmarked 9ct on a plaque on the reverse.
The design motif is formed in rails of gold, punctuated with an amethyst in a bezel setting with milgrain detail, as well as four seed pearls in individual bezels, one in the shape of a six petaled flower.

The round faceted pale pinky-purple amethyst has been verified as natural by an independent gemologist. It measures 5mm x 5mm x 4.28mm.

The pendant has a large bail suitable for a heavy chain or necklace of seed pearls.

The drop measures 40.2mm.
The pendant measures 33.85mm (not including the bail) x 28.91mm x 4.28mm.
Weighs 2.35 grams.

Condition:
Excellent antique condition. No faults to note.
