A substantial yellow gold rope bracelet, dating to the later half of the 20th Century, modelled in (very unusual) 16ct gold. I remember my mother and her friends wearing gold rope everything in the 1980s, along with their leather pants and vests and handknit jumpers. It was a special kind of luxe look that matched the big hair and even bigger shoulder pads of the time. Rope chains have been falling in and out of fashion through the centuries, the Victorian’s also loved a good rope chain, although usually they were much finer in width then was the fashion of the mid to late 20th Century. When you’ve worn a rope chain against your skin it’s not hard to understand why we keep coming back to them, the slinky smooth feeling is most luxurious.
This rope chain has the appearance of high carat gold – 18 or 22ct. It does have partial hallmarks on the loop, however I can’t make head nor tail of them. The bracelet XRF tests as 16ct gold, which is not a standard anywhere in the world. Very curious. I suspect this is a 14ct gold bracelet that has been heavily gilded in 18ct gold for that ultra luxe golden glow.

Modelled in 16ct gold throughout, there are undecipherable hallmarks on the bracelet loop. The gold content has been verified by XRF test.
The bracelet fastens with a fold-over safety clasp, very easy to get on and off with one hand, but fastens securely and resists accidental opening.
