AU$75Approximately US$49

A vintage cloisonné enamel pendant with gold plating dating to the 1980s. The pendant is double sided with a similar design on each of its convex surfaces of a white, green and pink flower against a turquoise blue ground. The edges of the enamel sections are made in gold wire, the perimeter of the pendant is gold plated.

Cloisonné is an ancient technique originating in the near east, with examples of the technique found dating to 3rd millenium BC. It’s practice spread all over the globe. It is a decorative technique in which coloured sections are separated by thin gold wires. It is a time and labour intensive technique, often many artisans are involved in various stages of the production.

This double sided pendant has a distinctly Chinese cloisonné appearance in the form of the floral motif and also in the choice of colours. The turquoise blue combines with white and pink with glimmers of gold makes for a delightful statement jewel. It’s smooth to the touch and wonderfully tactile.
