Geometry & Lace : 1930s Art Deco Filigree Dome Ring with Blue Sapphire and Transitional Cut Diamond in 18ct White Gold

AU$1,350Approximately US$886

Strong geometric shapes and lace-like filigree are combined into this handmade wonder of pure Art Deco styling. Set with a fine white transitional cut diamond in an octagonal setting at centre, and two elongated triangle cut lab blue sapphires at the sides, held aloft by a delicate network of hand pierced filigree. Impossible to recreate today, the sheer hours of painstaking labour involved in the making of this ring make me weep to think of it.

The Art Deco movement was born in a response to the machine age, characterised by sleek geometric forms and man-made materials. This love affair with technology extended into jewellery, where lab made gemstones were considered equal, if not better than their earth mined cousins. White gold was developed in 1919 and was instantly the darling metal of the period. This ring is an embodiment of the spirit of Art Deco.

A fresh take on the traditional trilogy ring – the three gemstones representing the past, present and future. In this ring the triangular arrowheads of blue sapphire point to the past and future, with the one of a kind transitional cut diamond at centre representing a dazzling present.

Manufacture:
Handmade in 18ct white gold, with saw pierced filigree undercarriage decorated with milgrain edging. Stamped 18k to the inside of the band, verified by XRF test. Likely made in the United States.

The central diamond is transitional cut, verified as natural by an independent gemologist and graded whilst set as I-K in colour, Vs-Si clarity. It has a 3.5mm diameter and weighs approximately .15ct
The two triangular blue sapphires have been verified as synthetic man-made corundum. They have been uniquely hand faceted into elongated triangles, measuting approx. 2.8mm x 4.5mm

The diamond is bead set into an octagonal setting, the sapphires are set into individual rub-over bezel settings. A dome of hand-pierced filigree forms the undercarriage, allowing light to travel beneath the gemstones for maximum sparkle and giving the ring excellent finger coverage.

The face of the ring measures 10.35mm x 18mm,
Sits 5.5mm high on the finger.
Weighs 2.67 grams.
