Allegory of Beauty : 1920s Lavender Chalcedony Intaglio Signet Ring of Woman in Profile

♥Sold♥

A sweet intaglio ring in the Romanesque style, dating to 1922 with a charming intaglio of a woman in profile. She wears no talisman or adornment that would signify her as a particular goddess, but her gentle mystery is alluring on its own. Her hair has been pulled back from her face with a wide band of fabric, as was the fashion of the early Art Deco period, her long hair is then pulled into a low bun at the nape of her neck. She has a long roman nose and heavily lidded eyes. A belle of the period, you could invent your own history for this sweet maiden or muse.

The chalcedony agate hardstone is dusty lavender in hue and glows on the finger like an otherworldly jewel. The intaglio is carved with the woman facing left, but the wax impression has her facing right – she looks simultaneously into the past and the future.

This unisex ring is a timeless delight carrying us across eras. Made in the ancient style but with early 20th Century flair, this antique piece is an easy to wear and highly unusual conversation starter. I bet she makes a great adventure companion.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 9ct gold, the ring is hallmarked to the inside of the band with a full set of British hallmarks for 9ct gold, Birmingham, 1922. The round chalcedony is held in a rub-over setting. The ring is in the style of ancient signet but both the ring and the intaglio date to the early 20th Century

The chalcedony has been verified by an independent gemologist. It measures approximately 8.7mm x 8.7mm x 3.5mm. It is beveled around the circumference with the intaglio carved into the flat top.
