Fairy Lights : Antique Australian Opal Five Stone Ring in 15ct by Robert Robertson & Sons

♥Sold♥

Australian opals in an antique Australian made jewel, what could be more perfect! This early Australian jewel by Robert Robertson & Sons, circa 1890, is set with five fiery Australian crystal opal cabochons in a 15ct gold setting with decorative scrollwork. The opals show a dazzling array of colours that shift and sparkle in the light. The hues are predominantly pink, blue and green and the colours seem to flash and float about like something small and enchanted, which is why I’ve called this ring “fairy lights”.

The ring is hallmarked inside the band with the marks employed by members of the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria, including the ‘thistle’ makers mark employed by Robert Robertson & Sons (formerly Robert Robertson) who traded from 1854 – 1921.

Manufacture:
Handmade in 15ct gold, hallmarked to the inside of the band with early Australian hallmarks, including the 15 fineness mark and thistle makers mark.

The five solid Australian crystal opal cabochons are graduated in size, the largest at centre measuring 5.1mm x 4.8mm. Each opal is set in a multi-clawed “boat” setting. All prongs have been tightened and the settings made secure.

The face of the ring measures 18.95mm x 6.5mm.
Sits 4.2mm high on the finger.
Weighs 3.52 grams.

Size:
M 3/4 or 6.75
somewhat resizable, but as with all opal row rings resizing is not recommended due to the delicate nature of the stones.

Condition:
Excellent antique condition. The opals have been polished and all claws checked and tightened. Plese note there is a small chip to the underside of the centre opal, only visible with magnification when viewed from underneath, but mentioned here for transparency.
Ready for immediate wear.
