Blue Velvet : Vintage 1940s Sapphire Cabochon Ring with a White Spinel Halo

Circa 1940s, this dress ring features a large natural blue sapphire cabochon surrounded by a halo of lab created (synthetic) white spinel. Set into a highly decorative 10ct yellow gold and sterling silver setting with saw pierced details to the shoulders and undercarriage, you’ll swoon over the velvety blueness of the glorious 3.75 carat sapphire whenever you wear it.

Manufacture: 
Modelled in 10ct yellow gold, with a sterling silver top and shoulders. The ring is not hallmarked, but the metal content has been verified by XRF test.

The central natural blue sapphire cabochon measures 11.5mm x 10mm x 3mm – approximately 3.75 carats. It is secured by four double prongs in 10ct yellow gold. The sapphire has been verified as natural Ceylon type material by an independent gemologist. There is some visible colour banding, including a fine oblique stripe of white through the centre of the stone.
Surrounding the blue sapphire is a halo of 2mm lab created (synthetic) white spinel set into sterling silver.

The undercarriage of the ring features scrolling saw pierced designs modelled in 10ct yellow gold. The decorative shoulders are modelled in sterling silver and feature saw pierced scrolls and engraved foliate details. The half round band is made in 10ct yellow gold and tapers from 2.5mm at the shoulders to 1.86mm at the back of the band.

The face of the ring measures 15.96mm x 12.91mm.
Sits 6.36mm high on the finger.

Condition: 
Excellent. The stones are free from chips or scratches, the ring shows no signs of damage or repair. There is some slight thinning to the back of the band, as is to be expected with vintage rings. Ready for immediate wear.
