Tulip Garland : Vintage Angel Skin Coral Bead Necklace

♥Sold♥

Natural undyed Angel Skin coral has been delicately hand carved into graduated tulips to form this sweet necklace. Dating to the 1970s, each bead has hand knotted onto silk. The colour of these beads suggests either Japan or Italy as the place where these treasures originally grew on the sea floor.

Coral of all varieties is becoming increasingly rare, and is now a protected resource. New coral beads can’t hope to compare with antique and vintage coral which was harvested from much cleaner and cooler ocean waters than we have today.

According to my antique floriography book, Tulips (and not roses) are the flower with which to declare your love. Variegated tulips are purported to signify “beautiful eyes” (!!) so if your love has eyes to die for, perhaps this is a fun way to let them know how you feel 🧡
