Dating to the mid-Victorian Era, circa 1860, this pendant/brooch is in the shape of a pansy flower.
Handmade in silver that has been gilded, with the exception of the bail which is 9ct gold. There are no hallmarks present, the metal content has been verified by XRF test.
The petals of the pansy are formed by five fine natural amethyst gemstones of marvellous clarity and saturation. The amethysts have been verified as natural by an independent gemologist.
This large piece can be worn as either a pendant or a brooch. A large loop at the top of the jewel can be used to hang from a chain, or the original tube hinge and c-clasp brooch fittings on the reverse are present and functional.
The pansy measures 33.64mm (not including the bail) x 24.65mm x 6.77mm (not including the brooch fittings.
