Supernova : Antique Australian Made Starburst with Opals and Pearls

18 lustrous seed pearls and 6 bright solid Australian Jelly opals adorn this versatile antique pendant/ brooch dating from the turn of the 20th Century. Cleverly fitted with a bale that can tuck neatly behind when worn as a brooch, this little fireball has loads of styling options. Whether it’s hanging from a chain, pinned to your shirt or into your hair this beautiful treasure is sure to win you lots of compliments.

This stunning antique starburst pendant / brooch has the early Australian hallmarks for Johnson & Simonsen who traded in Melbourne from 1895-1914. Their hallmark was a Square & Compass. It is accompanied by the 15ct hallmark and the mark used in Melbourne to denote 15ct gold: a fleece, which is basically a lumpy blob.

This piece is in excellent antique condition with no signs of repairs (with the exception of one replacement pearl, only visible under a loupe). The pearls are all well matched and have a full coat of nacre. The opals are lively and bright solid Australian jelly opal.
