Belle : Colour Changing Quartz Cocktail Ring in 9ct Rose Gold

♥Sold♥

An enormous cocktail ring featuring a masterfully cut gem quality quartz gemstone of approximately 20 carats. The extra large gemstone displays hues from pale lavender and rose through to delicate gold and smoke, transitioning with the quality of light available. Sometimes it is possible to see all colours at once in a truly delightful display. The gemstone is free of any visible inclusions and sparkles magnificently on the hand.

It has been suggested that the name of this remarkable quarts is ametrine – when amethyst and citrine form inside the same stone. Usually ametrine gems have distinct colour zones, but not so with this example, the shifting hues happen throughout the gemstone.

I found this piece as an unworn antique or vintage brooch, and spent over a year trying to style it in its original form – but it was just too big to be practical on even the heaviest fabrics, and because of the clarity of the stone it disappeared into the fabric it was pinned to. I decided that the only option to see this stone truly show off her astonishing colour changing properties was to set it in a ring, and asked my bench to extend the original brooch setting with a seamless undercarriage and band. They have managed to make the transformation flawless. The only indication of the metamorphosis is the old hallmarks on the side of the ring: a well rubbed 9ct mark and the makers mark MW. The original brooch was most likely a late Victorian Era jewel.

This gobsmackingly different cocktail ring is a party all on her own. Owing not only to her sheer size, but also the glittering facets and blushing changes in hue she can’t help but draw attention. An easy to style and easy to wear compliment bringer and conversation starter.

Manufacture:
Set in a 9ct rose gold six pronged basket setting, with an upswept flat band. Old hallmarks can be found on the side of the ring, and a new 375 mark for 9ct gold in the band.

The natural quartz gemstone has been verified by an independent gemologist as a member of the quartz family, which includes amethyst and citrine. It measures 22.62mm x 16.4mm x 11mm – approximately 20 carats. The gemstone is free from inclusions visible with the naked eye. This most unusual gemstone shifts in pastel hues from pale pink and purple (amethyst) to light smoke (smoky quartz) and pale yellow (citrine), presenting as all quartz varieties in one huge stone.

The face of the ring measures 24.03mm x 16.47mm.
Sits 13.34mm high on the finger.
