New Moon & Lucky Star : Antique Crescent Moon and Star Pendant

♥Sold♥

It is true that good things come in small packages. This very good thing is small and sweetly sentimental with a sensational old cut sparkle.

This antique crescent moon and star pendant has been converted from a stick pin. It dates to the turn of the century, circa 1900 – the tail end of the Victorian Era and the beginning of the Edwardian Era. Times were elegant, jewels were tastefully discreet and sentimentality was the flavour of the day.

The crescent moon is in the shape of a waxing moon – a new moon, symbolic of new beginnings, and set with seed pearls which symbolise purity. The small star represents the North Star – a guiding light. It is set with a plump and delicious old mine cut diamond. This motif was a popular gift between newlyweds of the time, celebrating their new commitment and the adventure about to begin.

After much thought and careful consideration I converted the stick pin into a pendant, so that it might be loved, worn and treasured once again.

You can see a short video of this piece on my Instagram account @secret_histories or online here.

Manufacture:
Like many antique jewels of this period, there are no hallmarks to be found. It has been confirmed to be 16ct gold by XRF test. The new pendant bail and loop are made in 14ct gold.

The seed pearls are graduated in size and well matched in colour, and all appear to be original. They are in excellent condition with a full coat of nacre. The very tiniest pearl at the top is slightly darker than the others.

The old mine cut diamond is bead set into the star. It has been verified as a natural diamond by an independent gemologist. It measures approximately 11 points and has been graded as E-G in colour and Vs in clarity.

The pendant has a drop of 16.2mm. The moon measures 10.15mm x 9.58mm x 4.88mm.
Weighs 1.25 grams.

The pictured vintage 9ct white and yellow gold station chain is available as an optional extra.
It is 42cm (16 1/2″) long. Weighs 1.88 grams. Made in Italy.

Condition:
Excellent. The conversion has been undertaken with the utmost care and consideration so that the moon will hang ‘just so’ when worn, with all due respect taken to the age and integrity of the jewel. Ready for immediate wear.
Please do keep in mind that to keep the pearls looking their best they should be prevented from regular immersion in water.
