Knots About You : Sterling Silver Knot Link Watch Chain Bracelet

♥Sold♥

A fine sterling silver watch chain bracelet formed with alternating reef knot and oval links, complete with a decorative small t-bar and swivel dog clip. Handmade with wonderful attention to detail, but I have to admit it’s a bit of a mystery for me to date, so I’m guesstimating early 20th Century, circa 1920 – 1930s.

The reef knot or square knot is a simple but steadfast knot, used since ancient times for binding two ends of a single of rope together. In jewellery it is also referred to as a “lovers knot” (which is different to a “true lover’s knot” where the knots themselves are heart shaped) as the harder the ends are pulled, the tighter the knot becomes.

Manufacture:
Handmade in Sterling silver, a small rubbed 925 mark can be found on the large loop near the t-bar. Every link is soldered closed. The dog clip swivels smoothly and snaps tightly closed.

The bracelet measures 20cm (7 7/8″)  long from dog clip to closing loop (not including the t-bar and associated links). The knot links are each 6.35mm wide x 13.58mm long.
Weighs 8.81 grams.

Condition:
Excellent. There is a slight bend to the ends of the t-bar which suggest it was once used to hold a heavy item, such as a large pocket watch. No other faults to note.
