Hollow in construction yet sturdily made, this pendant is modelled in 9ct gold, with an antique ‘bloomed’ plating in 18ct. It is hand engraved to the front with an Art Nouveau motif.
The gemstone in the centre of the pendant is a garnet topped doublet imitating a ruby. Garnet topped doublets are commonly found in early Australian jewellery, this stone is original to the jewel. The doublet measures 3.3mm in diameter.
On the reverse are the early Australian hallmarks for Aronson & Co. of Melbourne of a flag, number 9, and wheat sheaf. The model number M2 is also present.
The pendant measures 23.25mm (not including the bail) x 19.6mm x 8.6mm.
