Fetter & Knot : Early 20th Century Trombone and Knot Link Watch Chain in Sterling Silver

A weighty Sterling silver watch chain in alternating fetter (aka trombone) links and knot links. Circa 1910, this chain was originally worn on a gentleman’s waistcoat and used to secure his pocketwatch to his person, but has long been co-opeted as a chunky, unisex statement necklace.

The chain features a removable t-bar and a single swivel dog clip that is snappy and secure. Early 20th Century 925 hallmarks can be found on several of the links and on the loop of the t-bar which also has a tiny lion passant mark, used in the UK on items of sterling silver. The inside of the dog clip is hallmarked Sterling.

Modelled in sterling silver throughout with period 925 hallmarks on several links. The lion passant mark can be found on the loop of the t-bar. The inside of the dog clip is hallmarked Sterling.

The links are alternating long “fetter” or “trombone” links and “knot” links.
The chain is 6.5mm wide.
Weighs 50.57 grams.

Excellent. The chain shows minimal signs of wear. No faults to note.
