Consummate Hearts : Antique Heart Shaped Amethyst and Pearl Earrings in 14ct Yellow Gold

The colour of these deep, velvety purple amethysts is a sincere delight. The hue shifts from blue purple to pink purple depending on the light. The colour is so saturated you could dive right in and never find the bottom.

Amethysts and Pearls were the favoured jewels of kings and queens of times past. These jewels were once so incredibly rare that only the most affluent and highly regarded could afford them. Over time new deposits of amethysts have made these gems far more common – but the hue of antique amethysts cannot be matched and is highly collectable. Likewise the pearl culturing process has made pearls more available to everyday folks like you and me – but the pearls in these earrings date to before the invention of the cultured pearl process – these little gems were formed organically by an ocean mollusc in an pristine ocean.

The deep purple heart in these delightful earrings are antique amethyst jewel components, probably originally from a Victorian Era necklace. The pearls are likewise an antique jewellery component, the pearl  formed organically over decades by an oyster in the ocean (ie: not cultured). The two antique elements have been brought together into something new and a little different.

Manufacture: 
Modelled entirely in 14ct yellow gold. There are no hallmarks but the metal content has been verified by XRF test. The heart shaped natural amethysts are deeply saturated purple, the hue shifts from a blue-purple to a pink purple depending on the light.  The amethysts have been verified as natural by an independent gemologist. They are held in an antique multi-clawed coronet setting. The amethysts are hand cut and slightly different to each other. They measure approximately 14.22mm x 13.4mm x 8mm.

Above each amethyst an antique pearl is held in a bezel setting. One earring has a whole pearl, and the other a half pearl. The pearls are evenly matched in tone, have a full coat of nacre and a highly reflective lustre. They measure approximately 3.6 mm in diameter.

Each earring is suspended from a handmade 14ct yellow gold shepherds hook, that has been made to perfectly balance the drop.
