Moody Blues : Vintage Australian Sapphire and Diamond Ring

♥Sold♥

A classic ring with everything we love most about about vintage jewellery: wonderful natural gemstones, generous detailing, two tone precious metals and that one-of-a-kind feeling. This sweet ring dates to the middle of the 20th Century, circa 1940-1960.

The star of the show is an emerald cut natural Australian sapphire in deep blue with teal tones. In the sunshine she bursts into a vibrant teal colour, in low light she appears deep, deep blue, and under incandescent light she’s olivey green! For a little stones she has a very big personality.

The shoulders are decorated with a trifoil design, each leaf set with a small single cut diamond for a little additional sparkle power.

This delightful little ring was made for daily wear. She works well as part of a stack, but has enough pizazz to be your one and only.

Manufacture:
Made in two tone gold, the gemstones are all set into 9ct white gold, with the band in 18ct yellow gold. Hallmarked to the inside of the band 18ct, the metals have been verified by XRF test. It is quite common for rings of this era to have their stones set in the more durable 9ct gold, it makes for a harder wearing ring.

The emerald cut Australian sapphire measures 5.45mm x 5.9mm. Under magnification it is possible to see that it has bands of blue, yellow and teal colours characteristic in Australian sapphires. The shoulders are set with three single cut diamonds on each side.

The sapphire is set with four prongs into a white gold gallery with saw pierced details. The shoulders are also white gold in a trifoil pattern, each leaf is bead set with a small single cut diamond. Each of the leaves is outlined with milgrain details.

Condition:
In good vintage condition. If you plan on wearing this as an everyday ring I would recommend having the claws re-tipped in the not too distant future. It is fine to wear for now, but something to keep in mind.
