Circa 1820, this darling old ring features a square flat cut garnet in a 9ct gold closed back setting, with time worn foliate engraving to the face and trifurcated shoulders.
Garnets were everyone’s favourite gemstone during the late Georigian era. The gemstone was thought to compliment all skin tones, was suitable for all ages, and unlike some other gemstones it could be worn throughout the day and evening.
Today flat cut garnet rings are highly collected by antique jewellery aficionados. They give us a direct link to the romance of times long past.
This ring is a very small size and cannot be made much bigger without difficulty. I am very fond of wearing a garnet pinky ring, and I highly recommend that this piece be worn in the same manner ♥️
Manufacture:
Handmade in 9ct gold throughout, this ring bears no hallmarks as is correct for the period, the gold content has been verified by XRF test.
The central square cut garnet has been verified as a natural garnet by an independent gemologist. It measures approximately 6.6mm x 6.6mm.
It is set into a collet setting, surrounded by an engraved border of gold.
The shoulders are trifurcated, each section has been engraved with a leafy design, now worn smooth in places through time and wear.
The face of the ring measures 9.45mm x 9.38mm.
Sits 4.5mm high on the finger.
Weighs 2.78 grams.

Condition:
In very good antique condition. The engraving has been worn smooth in places by time and wear, and the garnet shows wear to the table facets – both to be expected in rings of this age.
