Fancy Pants : Antique Sterling Silver Engraved Alternating Link Double Albert Watch Chain

♥Sold♥

A strikingly unusual heavyweight Sterling silver watch chain from the late Victorian era, circa 1880. Made in the watch chain style known as “Double Albert” with two equal lengths of chain separated by a t-bar and finishing with a dog clip. This example is constructed from three different types of link, each engraved with foliate patterns. I’ve not seen anything to compare to it in all my years of hunting and finding. It does have a gentle similarity to the engraved fancy link “book chains” popular for women around the same time.

The weightyness of the chain allows it to sit flat and silky against the skin when worn. A very satisfyingly hefty piece, a delight to wear.

Manufacture:
Hallmarked “Sterling” to the inside of each of the swivel dog clips, and 925 to the t-bar.

The necklace measures 50.5cm or 20″ in length.
The links are 7.87mm wide and 6.5mm deep.
Weighs 44.38 grams.

Condition:
Incredible original condition with very little sign of wear. The dog clips both swivel and the clips are snappy and secure. Ready for immediate and everyday wear.
