Every Australian fashion thing of the early 1900s had a puffy heart pendant 💙 They came engraved, bloomed or plain, and frequently set with one of a myriad of stones from rare to imitation. I’ve found a number of these delightful, romantic treasures – but never one like this before! This is the largest puffy heart I’ve come across, and the only one in 18ct gold. Truly this piece was made for a queen of the turn of the century fashionista.
On the back you will find the adorable hallmarks of Australian family jewellers Willis & Sons whose hallmark is the Unicorn. Alongside is the 18 fineness symbol and a W, which signifies it was made after 1904 when Willis & Co., established 1858, was incorporated as Willis & Sons.
Manufacture:
Modelled in 18ct yellow gold, of hollow but sturdy construction. Hallmarked to the reverse with the Unicorn and W for Willis & Sons of Melbourne.
The front of the heart is set with a natural robins egg blue turquoise cabochon in an eight pointed star setting.
Measures 24.16mm (not including the bail) x 19.71mm x 7.9mm.

Condition:
In outstanding condition with minimal signs of wear. There are few light scuff marks to the back of the pendant, which are not visible when worn but could be easily buffed out. The gold has been polished to a mirror finish and is free from dents or scratches. An eye catching everyday piece, suitable for wear with your little black dress or jeans and a t-shirt.
