Earthshine : Victorian Era Crescent Moon Charm with Rubies and Rose Cut Diamonds

♥Sold♥

Earthshine is the astrological term for the light that is reflected off of the Earth and on to the Moon. Advancements in optics (lenses and telescopes) give the people of the Georgian and Victorian Eras new visions of the heavens above, and understandably they were fascinated with the night sky (as people have always been – telescopes or no). Celestial jewels had a renewed importance during this period. Crescent moon brooches were popular gifts for and between newlyweds – both bride and groom. The hope was that their love would grow, like a new moon, into fullness over time.

Gemstones were also held to have particular properties – the combination of ruby for passionate love, and diamond for eternity in this jewel speaks volumes about that the sentiment that this wee moon was given, without needing to say a single word.

Originally a stick pin, I had this crescent moon expertly converted into a charm for my own personal wear. This perfect jewel has been telling me for some time now that she’s ready to fly away to a new destiny. Reluctant as I am to let it go, I offer it for your consideration. These little crescent moon jewels are highly collectable and now very hard to find, especially set with exquisite gemstones such as these.
