Dear Heart : Late Victorian / Edwardian Crescent Moon and Swallow Brooch in 15ct Gold with Rose Cut Diamonds and Pearl

♥Sold♥

Honeymoon brooches from the late Victorian / Edwardian Era come in many shapes and sizes, but the sentiment is always the same: hopeful young love, romance, fidelity, and constancy.

Crescent moon brooches were given to brides as a symbol of hope for their married lives: the new moon symbolising the hope that young love world wax into the fullness of a long lasting and happy union. This is a most unusual example of the classic crescent moon brooch, accompanied by a highly detailed swallow holding a blooming sprig. Swallows represent spring, fertility, new beginnings, adaptability, and loyalty, and, as swallows mate for life, fidelity.

This exquisitely made brooch is made in 15ct gold. The little bloom in the swallows beak has rose cut diamonds in the leaves and features a fins and lustrous natural ocean pearl. It is quite likely Australian in origin and in excellent original condition.

At present it is fashionable to have crescent moon brooches converted into pendants. This brooch would be a good candidate for such treatment if desired.

The swallow carries a golden blossom in its beak, each leaf holds a rose cut diamond and the bloom itself is a whole natural ocean pearl with high lustre.
