Description
A small silver charm of a bug or insect dating to the Victorian Era circa 1850-1890 modelled in 800 silver and set with turquoise cabochons in the wings and thorax, and a deep green garnet topped doublet for the abdomen. The two small pink cabochon stones set in his eyes are too small for my gemologist to verify, but they have a lovely glow to them.
This charm has been converted from a (damaged) bar brooch. The long bar was removed and a loop has been added to the tip of one wing.
It is hallmarked 800 Silver Gilt to the reverse, with some small signs of the remaining gold gilding on the underside.
The five natural turquoise cabochons have deepened in hue through age and wear but are still a beautiful turquoise hue.
The bug measures 24.3mm x 15mm x 5mm
Weighs 1.4 grams
