Description

This stunning antique starburst pendant / brooch has the early Australian hallmarks for Johnson & Simonsen who traded in Melbourne from 1895-1914. Their hallmark was a Square & Compass. It is accompanied by the 15ct hallmark and the mark used in Melbourne to denote 15ct gold: a fleece, which is basically a lumpy blob.

This piece is in excellent antique condition with no signs of repairs (with the exception of one replacement pearl, only visible under a loupe). The pearls are all well matched and have a full coat of nacre. The opals are lively and bright solid Australian jelly opal.
