Stellar Shaker : Antique Rock Crystal “Pool of Light” Locket with Loose Gemstones

♥Sold♥

This little locket has been a little project of mine for quite some time, and I’m absolutely thrilled with how it turned out. I hope it will make someone as happy as it makes me!

The 9ct rose gold rock crystal locket has domed rock crystal on both sides creating a magnified or “pool of light” effect of whatever little treasure is held within. There’s more than enough space in there for something slight and three-dimensional, so I chose to fill it up with an assortment of recycled gemstones to create a “shaker” locket.

The locket itself is re-purposed from a larger piece of jewellery. Perhaps a brooch – it’s hard to know. The only piece to find its way to me was the little oval locket, which originally didn’t have a loop or bail. There are four tiny holes, two on each side, which may have been used to hold it inside the jewel it was originally made for. You should be able to see them on the photographs of the hinge and of the locket when open. I had my jeweller add the little loop and bale so that it could be worn as a necklace. I think it’s adorable!

I’m a big believer in all kinds of recycling, but especially with precious jewels and metals. A gold trader very kindly let me fossick through his collection of gemstones saved from pieces that had been melted. I was able to rescue some little sapphire hearts, topaz stars, amethysts and diamonds. There’s even a garnet or two in there for a little dash of pink!

I’ve added a very fine vintage 43.5cm 14k gold chain to complete the look, but the gemstones and chain are entirely optional – if you’d prefer the locket on it’s won please select the “whithout chain or gemstones” option.

I’d also like to point out a little scratch to the inside of the locket at the back. You can see it in the photograph of the bail and loop – it’s very small, but it is there and I have priced this piece accordingly. I believe it could be buffed out, but I don’t have the tools to do so. No other scratches, no chips. It opens easily with the application of a fingernail or thin blade, and closes securely with a satisfying snap.

The locket is not hallmarked but has been XRF tested to verify that it is 9ct rose gold. The new bail does have a 9ct hallmark, and the chain is hallmarked for 14k.

The locket measures 16.2mm x 13.2mm x 6mm
