Starlight : Art Deco Style Star Sapphire and Diamond Ring in 18ct White Gold

♥Sold♥

Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

Do you wish upon stars? The star in this ring lives inside a very pale lavender natural sapphire cabochon in a vintage Art Deco style 18ct white gold ring, with a supporting chorus of sparkly single cut diamonds. This piece dates to the later half of the 20th Century, circa 1970’s but made in the iconic style of the 1920’s.

Natural star sapphires are highly prized gemstones, the value of the stone being determined in part by the nature of the star – the more prominent and the straighter the rays on the star, the more highly prized it becomes. As with all gemstones the size of the cabochon and its colour and clarity are all part of the equation. This star sapphire likes to pretend it’s a moonstone, glowing ethereally until it is hit by a point light source (such as the sun or a light bulb) when the star sapphire bursts into view and dances upon the surface of the stone, moving as you do. It’s quite the special phenomenon, and if you believe in magic it’s one you won’t tire of.

Please note: the majority of these photos were taken in subdued indoor lighting so I could capture the details in the white gold setting, the photos on the hand and the first image show the star under daylight.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 18ct white gold from cast components that have been hand assembled. Hallmarked 18k to the inside of the band.

The shoulders are set with 12 single cut diamonds of 1.2mm each, with a total diamond carat weight of 0.12 carats. Each of the diamonds is bead set into a rectangular setting, with milgrain detail outline.
