Shining Stars : Victorian Era Old Cut Emerald and Diamond Ring in 18ct Gold

♥Sold♥

A most unusual Victorian Era 18ct gold band, set with old cut emerald and diamonds in star settings. I have seen similarly styled rings set with rubies and sapphires, but this is the very first emerald and diamond band of this genre I have seen. A most handsome antique band, quite likely Australian made.

Manufacture:
Cast in 18ct yellow gold, this wide gold band has scalloped edges along the top and bottom and chevron patterning at the shoulders. The old cut natural emerald is the highlight of the ring. Its verdant green is the hue emerald lovers seek out. It is approximately 3mm in diameter and and bead set into a star motif at the centre of the ring. An old cut diamond sits in its own star setting to each side of the emerald. Each diamond is approximately 2mm in diameter or 7 points each. The diamonds have been graded by an independent gemologist as Vs – Si in clarity, and G – I in colour. It is unusual to find old cut diamonds with such good colour and clarity.

The face of the ring is 8.5mm wide, tapering gently along the length of the ring to 2.59mm at the back of the band. The face of the ring is 2mm thick, tapering to 0.85mm at the back of the band. The ring weighs 4.3 grams. Hallmarked 18ct to the inside of the band.

Condition:
There are signs of wear commensurate with age. The ring appears in perfect condition to the naked eye, however under magnification you can see some wear to the facet edges of the stones and there is a chip to the emerald. Again, these faults are only visible under magnification.
Ready for immediate and everyday wear.
