Secret Unicorn : Antique Puffy Heart Pendant in 15ct Gold by Willis & Sons of Melbourne

A delightful romantic puffy heart pendant made by early Australian jewellers Willis and Sons circa 1904 – 1920.

Manufacture:
Made in 15ct gold, the front of the heart features a curving ribbon that could be engraved, with sprigs of foliage in relief on either side of the ribbon.

The back of the heart is smooth and plain, except for the hallmarks which are an almost invisible unicorn, 15 and W for Willis and Sons of Melbourne. This series of marks was used by the Willis family from 1904, but they were registered jewellers in Australia from 1858. The unicorn mark is derived from the Willis family crest.

This puffy heart pendant measures 21.7mm (not including the 5mm bail) x 17.5mm x 7.3mm. Weighs 1.6 grams.

Condition:
The pendant is hollow in construction but made to last. There are no dents or scratches or any flaws to note – all the dark spots in the photos are reflections.
The bail is not soldered closed.
