Sea Secrets : Vintage Clam and Mermaid Charm in 9ct circa 1957

♥Sold♥

A weighty vintage 9ct gold charm of a clam, which opens to reveal a tiny mermaid inside. With an unmistakable likeness to Botticelli’s famous painting “The Birth of Venus”, this darling charm is delightful and whimsical without being delicate.

Manufacture:
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1957 this vintage charm is made of solid 9ct rosy gold, gilded in a higher carat gold on the inside. The hallmarks are teeny tiny and gently rubbed, making it a bit of a puzzle to read, but with some tenacity you can make out the anchor and H assay marks.

The clam shell is powerfully solid – you need not worry about it becoming dented through wear.

It measures 19.7mm x 14.22mm x 9.72mm when closed, not including the jump ring.
Weighs 5.3 grams.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition, opens smoothly and closes securely with a reassuring little click. I have left the patina in place, but it could be polished to new if desired.
The jump ring is pushed closed.
