Ruby Romance : Art Nouveau Ruby Conversion Ring in 15ct

Sold

Originally a charming stick pin, this 15ct Art Nouveau piece has been masterfully converted into a supremely wearable low-profile ring. Featuring a bright pink natural, marquise cut ruby in a bezel setting, surrounded by a sinuous golden flourish and accented with two natural seed pearls.

This piece is a wonderful example of the Art Nouveau movement, circa 1890 -1910, which was inspired by the graceful curves and asymmetry found in nature – particularly in plants and flowers. In the shape of both a stylised ruby flower with pearl buds, and also suggestive of a heart. It is brimful of the joy de vivre synonymous with this period.

Ruby has long been revered as the “King of Gemstones” and ruler of the heart, it is a stone that inspires passion and romance. Seed pearls were used throughout this period and were extremely precious (The cultured pearl process was not invented until the 1920’s) Pearls were synonymous with purity, grace and the mysterious ocean they came from. Wrapping these two gemstones together within a golden heart – could there be anything more romantic?

Manufacture:
The ruby has been verified by a certified gemologist as natural and most likely untreated. It measures 6.6mm x 3mm and is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips or scratches. The natural seed pearls have their full coat of nacre and have a diameter of 2.5mm each. Each perl is securely bezel set.

The head of the ring is 15ct and stamped to the reverse, likely English in origin. (I have included a photo of the pin before conversion for your interest) As 15ct is no longer a standard we handmade the band out of 14ct gold. The conversion has been so successful that you would be forgiven for thinking it always looked this way, I’m extremely pleased with it! The band follows the flowing lines of the stick pin, accentuating the stylised heart shape.

The head of the ring measures 11.8mm north-south, 12mm east-west, and sits 2.9mm high on the finger.
Weighs 2.3 grams

Condition:
As this ring was a stick pin for the first 100 years of its existence it has avoided any damage or wear to the stones. The band is brand new. Overall the ring is in as new condition, ready for immediate wear.

Pearls are natural gemstones and quite soft, so please do wear her with care. If at all possible avoid washing your hands with this ring on – pearls aren’t fond of soap or perfumes.
