Reverse Intaglio Thistle Ring in 18ct Gold

Stunning “essex crystal” ring featuring a beautiful Scottish Thistle reverse intaglio carved into crystal and backed with what appears to be mother of pearl. I suspect this is an early conversion from a stick pin with a band of a similar era. It’s been beautifully done. The only point to note is a small hole that has been drilled to the reverse of the head of the ring – this was possibly where a stick pin was attached, or may have been created to allow the gold to expand when the band was soldered on.

The ring is in otherwise perfect antique condition. Hallmarked 18c to the back of the head of the ring, and what I think is 18 to the inside of the band.

Circa 1890 – 1910

The head of the ring measures 16.8mm x 12.3mm x 5.8mm. It weighs 4.1 grams.
