Protective Pendulum : Vintage Coral Drop Earrings in 14ct Rose Gold

♥Sold♥

Modelled in 14ct rose gold, these vintage earrings feature a natural deep orange coral bead suspended from a swinging pendulum inside a teardrop shaped gold frame. The kidney wires are hallmarked with the Latvian hallmarking system in use between 1927-1940 – before the Soviet Occupation of 1940.

Coral has been worn since ancient times as a charm of protection, guarding its wearer from illness. These little drops must have done the trick, as in the intervening decades they have travelled around the world from Latvia to Australia. One can only imagine their journey.

These earrings are lightweight but incredibly pleasing to wear – just the right amount of swish at the earlobe. The coral hue a prefect compliment to a summer wardrobe, and a charm against illness all year round.

Manufacture:
Made in 14ct rose gold, and stamped 583 in the distinctive Latvian font, along with the icon of a Latvian woman’s head facing left within an oval border with a clipped edge on the right. I believe this is the Latvian import punch in use from 1927 – 1940. While the Latvian hallmarking system from 1994 uses the same women’s head symbol, the newer marks appear as distinct marks seperate from the gold fineness mark. In this example the two are combined.

The earrings have a drop of 35mm. They are 9.6mm wide and weigh 2.1 grams (pair).

Condition:
In lovely vintage condition, ready for immediate and everyday wear.
