Pretty In Pink : Antique Pink Tourmaline & Seed Pearl Lavalier Necklace in 9ct Gold

♥Sold♥

Deliciously feminine, delightfully whimsical. Pink with pearls and flowers: a combination of precious stones and metals reminiscent of springtime. This wonderful confection of a jewel dates to the turn of the 20th Century, circa 1900. It features a medley of round and pear cut natural pink tourmalines, highlighted with natural seed pearls, all held in a sinuous Art Nouveau 9ct gold setting.

This necklace can be worn on its own as a most elegant statement, or paired up with layers of pearls and gold chains for a more is more look. Antique necklaces are exceptionally versatile when you bring our own styling genius out to play.

Whilst looking through the book “Australian Jewellers: Gold and Silversmiths. Makers and Marks” by Cavill, Cocks and Grace I found an identical necklace with blue gemstones on the page for Joseph Lawrence of Melbourne (page 151, plate 173) which suggests that this necklace is an early Australian piece. Please see the photos for a photograph of this necklace on the page in the book.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 9ct gold, the necklace is hallmarked to the barrel clasp with a 9c hallmark, but has been XRF tested in multiple places to verify that the metal is 9ct gold throughout. The piece is fashioned in two sections, the main section set with four round cut pink tourmalines and golden trefoils set with seed pearls. The dangle at the bottom includes a pear cut pink tourmaline with leaf accents, again set with seed pearls.

The pendant section measures 49.9mm wide x 49mm (including the drop) x 4.6mm.
The necklace is 42cm long and closes with an antique barrel clasp.
Weighs 5.8 grams.

The five natural pink tourmalines have been verified by an independent gemologist. They are each held in a multi-pronged coronet setting which allows the maximum amount of light to penetrate the gemstones for an abundance of colour play and sparkle.
The gemstones have all been measured in their settings so sizes are approximate. The round cut gemstones range in size from 6.5mm diameter to 4.5mm diameter. The pear cut stone measures 9.6 x 4.9mm. The natural tourmalines are a fine mid pink with salmon tones, the central round cut stone is slightly paler than the other, more deeply saturated gems.

The eight natural seed pearls all appear to be original to the piece, and are bead set in the golden leaves.

Condition:
In outstanding antique condition with no faults or signs of repair. A piece that is certain to become a treasured family heirloom.

**please note the antique box is for styling purposes only. The necklace will arrive in a presentation gift box to keep it safe for generations to come.
