Power for Good : Vintage Ruby and Diamond ‘Gypsy’ Ring in 18ct Yellow Gold

♥Sold♥

There is a fourteenth century treatise, attributed to Sir John Mandeville, in which the owner of a perfect ruby is assured of a peaceful life: “Neither his lands, nor his possessions, nor his rank, nor his personal property, will ever be in peril, and the stone will guard his house, his fruit trees and his vineyards from tempestuous storms.” The ruby has always been held to be a strong and virile power for good, a ward against evil and sickness, some myths even imbue it with the power to restore youth! No small wonder then, that the ruby has long been heralded as the King of Gems. More rare than diamonds by far.

The three natural gemstones in this mid to late 20th Century ‘gypsy’ or rub-over ring are all of especially fine quality. The natural ruby is a generous size, a delicious deep fuchsia hue and is not only eye clean, but loupe clean, too. The brilliant cut diamonds to each side have a clarity and brilliance that is entirely captivating. The stones are wrapped in a timeless 18ct yellow gold setting. The result is absolutely charming, and will not fail to make you smile whenever you see it.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 18ct yellow gold and hallmarked 18ct to the inside of the band. The gemstones have all been verified as natural by an independent gemologist. All stones have been measured and graded whilst set.

The oval cut ruby measures 5.6mm x 4.4mm, approximately 1/2 carat.
The brilliant cut diamonds measure approx. 3mm in diameter. They have been graded as H-J in colour (but I would expect them to be much whiter if graded when unset) and VS in clarity. Each of the diamonds is approximately 12 points, with a combined carat weight of 1/4 carat.

The domed ‘gypsy’ setting is 7mm wide, tapering to 2mm at the back of the band.
The ring weighs 2.7 grams.

Size N or 7
somewhat resizable by your local bench jeweller.

Condition:
In excellent vintage condition with very minor wear. There is some slight thinning to the back of the band, but nothing that would prevent it from being worn for decades to come. Ready for immediate and everyday wear.
