Luxe Links : Victorian Double Albert Watch Chain with Graduating Links

Sold

A luxurious, slinky and weighty solid 9ct gold double Albert chain dating to the late 1800’s. Originally used by a gentleman to hang his pocketwatch and other necessities, it has been co-opted as an essential item of every vintage jewellery lovers ensemble. Timeless and classic, functional and beautiful, perfect worn alone or as part of your neckmess.

Manufacture:
Made in solid 9ct gold in that delicious hue that hovers between yellow and rose, each of the lengths of chain on either side of the t-bar gently graduates in both the size of the links and the thickness of the gold – the smallest link being 5mm wide made from 1.2mm gauge wire, to the widest link of 7mm made from 2mm gauge wire, and back down again. The transition is smooth and skillfully done. The widest parts of the chain like to snuggle into your collarbones, weighting it perfectly.

Each handmade link has been hallmarked, including the t-bar, swivel dog clips. The T bar swivels in its mount – another lovely detail on a finely made piece of functional jewellery, and very tactile for restless fingers to play with. Once upon a time a medal would have hung from the short length of chain next to the t bar, but it now waits for your personalisation with a charm or fob.

The chain weighs 41.4 grams, is 45.5cm / 18″ long.

Condition:
The chain is in outstanding condition with very little sign of wear. One of the dog clips is a replacement, evident by its slightly rosier hue. Both of the swivel/dog clips have excellent spring and full rotation.

Ideal in every respect, a high quality piece of jewellery made to endure.
