Antipodean Pioneer : Colonial Australian Wide Gold Ring with Old Cut Diamonds

♥Sold♥

Early Australian in manufacture and design, with obscure hallmarks that hint at a pioneering maker from the colony of South Australia. This stunning and unusual wide rose gold ring features a trio of lively old mine cut diamonds in star settings. The centre diamond weighs approx. 5 points, with the side diamonds of about 3 points each.

Hallmarked 18c with another mark that hints at a crown – a hallmark used by many early South Australian makers from the mid to late 1800’s. Although the ring is hallmarked 18c it XRF tests as 16ct – impossible to know if that was a result of mischief or mis-managed tools.

The ring is 7.3mm wide, tapering from the shoulders to 1.5mm at the back of the ring. It weighs 4 grams.
