Mysteries of the Deep : Vintage Australian Black Crystal Opal Ring

♥Sold♥

The solid Australian opal in this ring reminds me a lot of a recent family underwater adventure, swimming with cephalopods 🦑 In the darkened sea floor the bright lights of giant cuttlefish would suddenly flare, pulse and shimmer while we all floated about in the icy waters off the coast of South Australia.

The black crystal opal (or semi-black opal) has a similar mysterious quality. In indirect light its darkened surface is inscrutable, but under direct light it suddenly bursts into shimmering electric blue and green, the tiny lights appearing to swim inside the solid opal cabochon.
