Moss in Snow : Art Nouveau Jadeite Navette Ring in 15ct Rosy Gold

Sold

Luminous jadeite in the patternation known as “moss in snow” – a delicate mix of white and apple green jade – is the focus of this large statement ring. Holding the large cabochon is a sinuous Art Nouveau ring in rosy 15ct gold, with an ornate and delicate looking undercarriage and wonderfully detailed shoulders. The ring has excellent finger coverage and presence on the hand.

Moss in Snow jade is a rare and sought after form of jade. Jade is particularly revered in the East, especially in China and is thought to have healing and protective properties. White jade symbolises nourishment, harmony, grace, and beauty. Green jade embodies the five human virtues: wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty, and justice. Moss-in-Snow jade, or Hua hsueh tai tsao (“moss entangled in melting snow”), encompasses the virtuous characteristics of both white and green jade.

Manufacture:
The jadeite measures 21mm x 14.5mm x 4mm, measured in the setting. It is in wonderful condition with high lustre and no chips, scratches or other faults to note.

Modelled in 15ct rosy gold with unique styling from the Art Nouveau period – sinuous and flowing with gentle symmetry and a nod to the natural world. The gold ring shows hints of a well worn hallmark, now illegible. The ring has been XRF tested to verify the gold content as 15ct gold. At one point there was an 18ct gold wash over the top, the remains of which can be seen on the underside of the ring.

The band is 2.8mm wide and 0.6mm thick. The ring sits 6.2mm high on the finger.

Size P1/2 or 8
resizing is possible but not recommended.

Condition:
In marvellous antique condition with no faults to note. Ready for immediate wear.
