Moshi Moshi : Antique Telephone Charm in 18ct Yellow Gold

♥Sold♥

An incredibly detailed ‘candlestick telephone’ charm in 18ct gold. Telephones of this shape were common from the late 1890s to the 1940s. I honestly have no idea how to date this piece – it is heavy and well made with intricate detail, but as it bears no hallmarks I can’t say for certain.

“moshi moshi” is the greeting Japanese people say when picking up the phone, and I’ve always thought it was super kawaii. There are many theories as to why this greeting was adopted in Japan – according to the website tofugu.com kitsune (magical foxes) and ghosts can’t say moshi moshi, so if the person you are talking to on the phone doesn’t say moshi moshi you may well be speaking to a supernatural being. Seems legit. This has nothing at all to do with the charm, but hey it’s my website and I think it’s a tidbit worth sharing.
