Magic Jelly : Edwardian Era Australian Jelly Opal in 9ct Rose Gold

Sold

A small but super bright solid Australian jelly or crystal opal, in an Edwardian Era 9ct rose gold setting. While the stone itself is not especially large it has a huge presence on the hand due to the intensity of colour and sparkle within the stone.

Jelly or crystal opals are translucent when held up to the light – the colours appear to be suspended in jelly or crystal. They come to life when worn against the skin.

The opal measures 7.2 x 5.2 x 2 mm. It has been professionally repolished and glows with a rainbow of electric colours in all lighting conditions, the predominant hues being blue and green, with splashes of yellow and pink.

The 9ct rose gold ring is most likely made in Australia, circa 1901 -1910 – although I have not been able to determine the maker from the hallmarks to the inside. The ring weighs 1.5 grams
