Lucky Star : Star Set Old Mine Cut Diamond Ring in 18ct Gold Circa 1916

♥Sold♥

A delicious unisex signet style ring, featuring a bright old mine cut diamond star set into a silky smooth 18ct rosy gold ring with hallmarks for Birmingham 1916. Star set diamonds are said to reference the pole star – a guiding light in the night sky. This was a particularly potent symbol for those living through WWI, which is the time period in which this ring was made. A guiding light or a lucky star to keep you safe from harm.

Manufacture:
The old mine cut diamond is approximately 2.5mm in diameter. It has been graded by an independent gemologist as fine white (E-G) in colour and Si clarity. The hand cut diamond is securely set into an eight pointed star setting.

The square face of the ring measures 9.05mm north-south and 2.3mm thick. The face tapers smoothly to the shoulders which continue to graduate along the length of the band to 3.15mm wide and 0.7mm thick at the back of the band. The entire gold surface is covered in a gorgeous patina that can only be achieved with one hundred years of wear and gives it a soft bloomed finish and buttery appearance much like the colour of 22ct gold. The ring weighs 4.6 grams.

Lovely crisp hallmarks to the inside of the band for Birmingham 1916 and makers mark S.U.Ltd

Size O or 7.25
resizable, but please do mind the hallmarks.

Condition:
To the naked eye the old cut diamond looks perfect – white and without inclusions, however under magnification you can see the diamond has a chip or surface reaching inclusion from the table edge to the girdle which has likely been there since the stone was set – is not visible with the naked eye but is mentioned here for transparency. It does not interfere with the light play or clarity of the stone in any way, I had no idea it was there until I visited the gemologist and she pointed it out.
In lovely antique condition, ready for immediate and everyday wear now and for decades to come.
