High Fidelity: Victorian Era Wide Gold Band with Ivy Motif in 15ct by Bassé

Sold

A wide gold cigar band style ring in 15ct gold, made by early Australian jeweller Frederick Bassé of Adelaide. The band features a garland of ivy leaves and small flowers in relief that covers the entire surface of the band. During the Victorian era ivy was used to represent fidelity and constance as well as enduring love. Ivy was a popular choice for bridal decorations and it is likely this band was a wedding ring. An outstanding example of Australian colonial jewellery.

Manufacture:
The band is 7.4mm wide and 0.85 mm thick. It weighs 3.3 grams. Hallmarked 15c and BASSÉ to the inside of the band.

Measures a size N or 7 in the mandrel, but fits like an M or 6.25 because of the width of the band.
Not resizable.

Condition:
The pattern shows signs of wear as you could expect to see in a much loved antique ring, the details to the pattern are rubbed on the higher points. The lower areas are gently textured and the floral elements show gentle wear from over 150 years of love. The ring is otherwise in excellent condition with no signs of repair.

Ready for immediate and everyday wear.
