A flowing and sinuous heart shaped pendant from the Art Nouveau period (1890 – 1910) set with pinky purple almandine garnets and natural seed pearls. Most likely English in origin this piece can be worn as an enhancer or a pendant thanks to the clever removable bail.
The Art Nouveau period is known for its flowing lines, echoing nature. During this period the neck and décolletage was regarded as the most sensual area of a woman, and long pendants were designed to elongate the neck and emphasise the collarbones. This romantic pendant embodies all of these design features with flowing golden leafy tendrils that curl over and around each other, a central bezel set glowing garnet jewel and a dainty pear shaped garnet dangle at the bottom.
Manufacture:
Made in 15ct yellow gold, the pendant has been made with a hook and removable bail, to allow it to be hung as an enhancer from a beaded necklace or from a chain with the bail in place. Please see the photographs for examples of the pendant being worn with and without the bail.
It measures 52.5mm with the bail, or 39.05mm without the bail x 32.15mm x 5.83mm.
Weighs 4.8 grams.
The natural almandine garnets are deeply saturated pinky purple hue. The oval garnet measures 8.6mm x 6.5mm and the pear cut garnet drop is 6mm x 4mm. Each stone is bezel set with milgrain edging.
The natural seed pearls are bead set in place and vary in size from the very smallest at 1mm diameter to the largest at 2.5mm diameter. They all have a full coat of lustrous nacre.
