Heart and Stars : Edwardian Era Heart Locket with Old Cut Diamond and Rubies in 9ct Rose Gold

♥Sold♥

💖Love You Forever💖
In Victorian and Edwardian jewellery diamonds stood for infinity, and rubies for passionate love. Combined with the three star settings that each gemstone rests inside, and wrapped around a puffy golden heart the message of enduring and abundant love is perfectly clear.

Manufacture:
Modelled in 9ct rose gold throughout, with three gemstones in star shaped settings, the locket opens to reveal spaces for two portraits or mementos. Hallmarked to the reverse with marks for Birmingham and a rubbed date letter that might be a b for 1901, but could also be a h for 1907.

The old cut diamond at the centre of the locket measures approximately 2.3mm diameter or 6 points. It has been graded by an independent gemologist as Si in clarity and G-I in colour. A jolly, bright and sparkly stone.
The two old cut verneuil rubies are approximately 2.6mm each in diameter. Verneuil or ‘flame fusion’ rubies are the earliest lab grown gemstones – at the time they were thought to be better than the real thing because of their deep saturation and even match in colour. They were very desirable gemstones for the period and are original to the piece.

The locket measures 23.71mm (not including the 6.7mm bail) x 20.3mm x 8.15mm. It weighs 3.8 grams.

An optional rose gold chain is available, it is the perfect match in hue. Measuring 51.5cm long ( 20.3″) and weighing 3.4 grams the s-link chain pictured completes the look.

Please note the antique box is not included in the sale, but it will arrive in a lovely gift box.

Condition:
In lovely antique condition with wear commensurate with age and use. The front of the locket is unmarred by any bumps or scratches, however there are some light bumps to the back of the locket in the top right corner, these are invisible when worn.

Ready for immediate and everyday wear – just add your own photos or mementos to the locket interior and you can keep your loved ones close to your heart.
